Alisson claims Samba d'Or beating his team-mate and star player finishes fifth

Liverpool goalkeeper, Alisson became the first goalkeeper to win the Samba d’Or award. Alisson beat his team-mate and Liverpool number nine, Roberto Firmino while Neymar finished fifth.

The stopper got 35.54% of the votes for the best Brazilian player in Europe with Firmino getting 23.48% votes. Liverpool won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup in 2019 while Brazil claimed Copa America glory.

Paris Saint-Germain defender and captain, Thiago Silva came third with another Liverpool player, Fabinho taking the fourth spot. Liverpool had a clear dominance in this award function too as a result of a successful 2019. The players, staff and the manager all ended the year on a high and expect a similar 2020. 

The title is yet to be won and Liverpool look firm with their intentions. Three-time Samba d’Or winner Neymar missed Brazil’s triumph at the Copa America on home turf and therefore ended with only 7.57%, having a troubled record with his club too.

However, Neymar looks all focused to be a part of the PSG squad and is bonding better than ever amid rumors, linking him back to his old club, Barcelona. The upcoming year would be an exciting one with the summer transfer window coming up and starting new link-ups and rumors.

Firmino won the award in 2018 and Alisson is the third player to win the Samba d’Or while representing Philippe Coutinho, the 2016 recipient. Coutinho was out of headlines this year as he moved to Bayern Munich on loan from Barcelona after enough criticism.

Coutinho is already loved by the Munich fans and the team and is surely looking forward to finalizing a permanent move to the German side. With a tight Bundesliga race going on, it will be interesting to see how the Brazilian performs and become a deserving candidate of the Samba d’Or in the upcoming years.
