Best XI in world football, using only squad numbers 1-11

Since everyone seems to have plenty of time in their hands right now, let’s see the best XI currently in World Football, using only squad numbers from 1-11.

GK- Marc Andre ter Stegen

Squad Number: 1

A heartbreak for Atletico Madrid fans because Jan Oblak doesn’t wear the number one shirt at the Wanda Metropolitano. No Alisson Becker because ter Stegen has been better than the Brazilian in many ways this season.

RB- Dani Carvajal

Squad number: 2

There might be an argument for the possible inclusion of Manchester City’s Kyle Walker but the Los Blancos right-back has stood strong and will be a regular fit in most of the teams.

Finally, with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Achraf Hakimi snubbing the number two shirt for their respective clubs, Carvajal is just about the perfect choice.

LB- Alex Grimaldo

Squad number: 3

A lot of people may have no idea about who this player is, while the other half must be rooting for Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell.

However, Grimaldo has shown more potential over the last few years to prove he’s one of Europe’s best full-backs and he’s more deserving for the spot.

CB- Virgil Van Dijk

Squad number: 4

He is probably one out of the only two selections in this team where you cannot debate. V

an Dijk has proven himself and is without a doubt included in the world’s best centre-backs group. For Liverpool fans, well, he is the only player who has actually made it in this squad.

CB- Raphael Varane

Squad number: 5

Milan Skriniar and Kalidou Koulibaly may be unlucky for having other squad numbers but even if they were involved in the selection process, Varane would still have a guaranteed spot.

CM- Paul Pogba

Squad number: 6

A lot of Graeme Souness quotes may come up in your mind but no one can ignore the impact he’s had on the United squad and his numbers can easily rise once he gets great quality around him.

However, Thiago Alcantara deserves a mention too as he just missed out on this starting XI.

CM- Saul Niguez

Squad Number: 8

The two best players who wear the number eight play in Madrid but it’s Real Madrid’s Toni Kroos who has to watch the other number eight getting picked up.

At his best, the German is probably better than anything we’ve noticed from Saul but at this moment it’s the Rojiblancos player that deserves this spot.

RW- Lionel Messi

Squad Number: 10

Well, there are no questions regarding this spot and even if anyone has, it doesn’t matter. The Argentine has been always there for Barcelona’s rescue even after spending heavily in the market.

LW- Marco Reus

Squad Number: 11

This squad has been picked not only on the basis of the squad number but also if the player is really capable of playing at the position he’s selected for. Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah could’ve been a sure choice but his spot was taken by Lionel Messi and it’s hard to object that.

However, Reus maybe be injury-prone but he is still one of the most dangerous attacking players in the world.

ST- Kylian Mbappe

Squad number: 7

A shocker definitely because the youngster has replaced Cristiano Ronaldo but considering age and the performances in the recent past, it’s hard to sideline Kylian Mbappe.

Experience cannot be a factor to replace the Frenchman otherwise Andy Carroll would be picked ahead of Mbappe too.

ST- Robert Lewandowski

Squad number: 9

There are 0% chances of any debate for this spot.

If the coronavirus pandemic stops for the rest of the calendar year, then Bayern’s Lewandowski is the only player who will still be in contention for the Ballon d’Or, as he is the undisputed number nine in world football currently.
