FIFA WC 2022| Analyzing each QFs chances to win the World Cup

The FIFA World Cup 2022 has reached the quarterfinal stage where teams are one defeat away from witnessing the catastrophe of exit from the competition. 

While teams like England, Morocco, Netherlands and Morocco are yet to taste defeats, big boys like France, Brazil and Argentina and Portugal can’t be underestimated despite having been second-best in one of their group games. 

To evaluate the chances of each team we have graded them on a scale of 10, where the better team will get higher points. So, who has a better chance of winning the World Cup?

Brazil

Brazil should be the favourites to win the World Cup and have shown their class whenever it has mattered the most. Brazil’s bench strength is as strong as their Starting XI and have backup options in every department including the goalkeeper and full-backs who play for giant clubs across Europe.

Argentina

Another South American country that is capable of ending the 20-year drought for the continent has the firepower and the substance to go all the way. Argentina have the likes of Lionel Messi and Emi Martinez who have been focal to the team’s success. Again a good bench strength and players’ game-changing ability see them being one of the best in the world and a firm candidate to win the World Cup.

France

One of the prime candidates and the defending World Champions, France are one of the hot favourites to lift the trophy and become just the third team to win back-to-back World Cups. If World Cups were distributed for solo performances, Kylian Mbappe would have already run away with it. Experience is the key reason why France should be the favourites to clinch glory in Qatar.

England

Still undefeated in the tournament, England are primed for success having reached the final of the Euro 2020 while getting beaten in the semifinal in Russia four years ago. Players such as Harry Kane, and Marcus Rashford give them a different dimension while a superb defence has seen them excel in the tournament.

Portugal

Not the ideal favourite candidates, but Portugal can ride their luck toward the semifinals at least as they have a kind draw. Talking of talent, Portugal also have all the necessary tools in the arsenal, while the worrying sign was the bench, even that has excelled as well. Goncalo Ramos showed that the other day in Portugal’s win over Switzerland.

Netherlands

The Dutch have been so far lucky to have been on kind side results with the favourable group and draws. No real challenge in the group stage and the R16 they are doing a great job, it will be interesting to see how long they go in the tournament while Argentina awaits in the last eight, the first real test of any type for Louis van Gaal’s men.

Chances: 7/10

Croatia

Like 2018 Croatia are yet again a surprise package of the tournament as they are now in the last eight and knowing a win will see them in the last four of the World Cup yet again. The European side though won’t be the favourites to clinch a place in the next round as they take on Brazil, who could give them a run for their money.

Chances: 6.5/10

Morocco

The African side is through to their first World Cup quarterfinal and a place in the semifinal cannot be ruled out if they bring their ‘A-Game’ to the table. However, it is very much unlikely that they will win the World Cup ahead of France, Brazil and Argentina.
