The iconic Nike 1998 world cup advertising campaign was the first iconic team Nike ad. The ad featured the charismatic team of the 1998 World Cup, Brazil as the ad won the hearts of many. Moreover, the ad worked wonders as it combined marketing, football, and footballers flawlessly and gained upper hand over its competitors such as Adidas and Puma. Since then, Nike has remained a sponsor of Brazil till date.
Adidas 'Nothing is Impossible'-2006 World Cup
Another iconic World Cup advertising campaign, ad comprises many football superstars, such as David Beckham, Michael Ballack, Zinadine Zidane, and Kaka, to name a few. In the ad, two kids, Jose, and his friends look for football players to start the game. Adidas very smartly showcased the child's innocence to create football teams out of many players from different teams/countries.
The ad was an instant hit and showcased all the best players in the world to show they endorse Adidas products.
Coca-Cola 'History of Celebration'-2010 World Cup
Coca-Cola has been sponsoring the World Cup since 1978, however, its campaign for the 2010 FIFA World Cup is rated among the best ad campaigns. The ad reflects back Roger Miller, the first African player to score at the World Cup. Moreover, the ad walked through the history of World Cup celebration dances.
The entire campaign is said to be "the single largest marketing push the soft drink giant has ever run".
Pepsi 'Sumo'-2002 World Cup
In the classic Pepsi advertisement campaign Raul, Roberto Carlos, Edgar Davids, Rui Costa, Juan Sebastián Verón, Emmanuel Petit, David Beckham, and Gigi Buffon, take on giant sumo wrestlers for the chance to win the cold basket of Pepsi.
With rivals, Coca-Cola made a name for itself with its long-time association with World Cups, Pepsi concentrated on "ambush" marketing, seeking to establish a relationship with the tournament by using footballers such as David Beckham in its ads.
Paul the Octopus-2010 World Cup
Perhaps the oddest and weirdest World Cup campaign ever, as the famous psychic animal 'Paul the Octopus'. Paul took the world by storm after the correct prediction outcomes of the football matches in Euro 2008.
Paul, who lived in the sea Life Centre in Oberhausen, was broadcasted live on German TV. The animal predicted Germany's victories until the semi-finals when Paul predicted Spanish victory over the Germans.
However, even after his death, the octopus is so famous, that Google remembers him with his very own Google doodle.
