ISL 2023-24: Top ten players who are running out of contract
Many new faces will be seen for various clubs in the next ISL season. The transfer window dawns upon us once again and a par of that is players running out of contracts. One of the most shrewd forms of transfers which bring joy of having a player at their club without the hassle of a drawn out transfer saga to some and agony to others for losing out on their players without being adequately compensated to find a replacement.
ISL is no different and as the season draws to a close and the summer transfer windows draws closer upon us, teams would be on the lookout to add some firepower on the cheap. While others have cut their losses and decided to release some players from their contract to free up the wage bill, these players might be on a lookout to find a new team for next season too. So without further Adu,
Here are ten players of Indian Super League 2023-24 who are running out of contract.
1. Brendan Hamil
Mohun Bagan Super Giant’s centre-back who linked up with the historic maroon and green Bengal based club in June 2022 after his stint with Melbourne Melbourne Victory FC in the A-League will run without a contract at the end of the season. Hamil by the looks of his on field performance has been quite decent during his time on the pitch for MBSG. Hamil raked in 12 match appearances and has also scored a goal for his side.
2. Saul Crespo
Now moving onto the other historic Bengal club, the Spanish midfielder who joined the Gold and Yellow club on a one-year contract after leaving Odisha FC will also run out of a contract at the end of the season. It has been allegedly reported by various sources that he has received a proposal of contract extension from his present club but no official statement has come out from the management. It is likely that the news about his stay at the club will be cleared in a couple of days.
3. Jorge Pereyra Diaz
After a two-year stay with Mumbai City FC, Jorge Pereyra Diaz’s contract with his present employers is going to end after this season. The centre-forward who teamed up with the CFG feeder club after leaving Club Atletico Platense has already scored eight goals for Mumbai in the ongoing ISL season. There have been rumors of FC Goa to be his next destination but as of now, no official sources have come out and verified such claims.
4. Dimitrios Diamantakos
Kerala Blasters’ best player this season and their captain is also on the brink of running out of contract at the end of the season and going out on a free. He has put the ball 13 times into the back of the net in this edition of the tournament, which is the most by any player. If one is to pay any heed to the rumours, there are high chances of Diamantakos is not going to extend his contract with his current club.
5. Kiyan Nassiri
Mohun Bagan’s young gun Kiyan Nassiri will also run out of contract at the end of the season. His has not had the best of campaigns this time around but he holds a huge potential to be a huge asset for any club he plays next as he had shown flashes of brilliance especially during his early days at Mohun Bagan. As per several rumours, Nassiri is all but confirmed to join Chennaiyin FC from the next season.
6. Roy Krishna
Odisha FC’s star striker Roy Krishna’s contract is also set to expire in a few days. He has been the Kalinga Warriors’ best scorer this season with 12 goals under his belt in the ISL. He had signed a one-year contract with the club last year. Although there were rumours that Mohammedan SC might approach the Fiji player to join their ranks, but him joining the newly promoted league champions looks unlikely at the moment.

He joined the Gaurs in 2021 and has appeared in a total of 62 matches in ISL in three years. Even if Goa doesn’t end up extending the young goalkeeper’s contract, there will be several clubs who will look to sign up a young yet higly experienced shot-stopper like him with an attractive deal.
8. Hijazi Maher
East Bengal’s Hijazi Maher has been one of the more adventurous defenders for the club from Bengal. After his time with Al-Hussein SC, he joined East Bengal on a one-year deal which will end after this season. If the rumour mill is to be believed, then Hijazi has been offered a contract extension by his current club but there has been no official statement put out regarding the same.
