Leicester City closing in on a deal for Serie A winger

Premier League giants Leicester City have reportedly reached an agreement with AS Roma to sign Cengiz Under on loan with an obligation to buy for £22 million next summer.

It was reported last weekend how the Foxes were keen to bring the Turkish international to the King Power Stadium. Both Arsenal and Manchester United have been linked with the winger during this window, but it is Brendan Rodgers' side, who are believed to be in pole position to land him.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has stated how Leicester have stepped up their pursuit of Under after having a bid rejected by Barcelona for Francisco Trincao.

He tweeted: "Leicester are close to signing Cengiz Under from AS Roma! The agreement is going to be reached on loan with obligation to buy. After having an official bid refused by Barcelona for Trincao, #LCFC are now working to sign Under."

Romano then claimed that Leicester will have the obligation to permanently sign the forward for £22 million.

He stated that the Foxes are ready to hand him a deal until 2025, with personal terms not believed to be an issue. It has even been said that Under should become a Leicester player in the coming week.

Roma are willing to let him leave as he has failed to nail down a regular starting spot at Stadio Olympico. Under has spent the last three seasons in Rome where he has scored 17 times in 88 games.

A loan fee of £2.7m has been agreed for the 23-year-old, according to Sky in Italy, but Roma wants Leicester to commit to buying him for £22m in a year's time.

Leicester's priority remains a centre-back, a position where the squad is particularly lacking depth, and therefore the hierarchy is reluctant to spend big money upfront for Under, or any other winger.

An 'obligation' to buy means Leicester would be forced to pay out when Under's season-long loan came to an end.
