Liverpool continue their domination in the Merseyside derby

Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton failed to make their experience count in the FA Cup third round as Liverpool’s Curtis Jones reminded Klopp of the time when they had Philippe Coutinho. A pass on the right foot by Divock Origi enabled Jones to open up and shoot, completely taking the Everton keeper, Jordan Pickford by surprise as the ball curled back to the back of the net.

This fabulous goal was also Jones’ first senior goal for the Reds, which carried Liverpool to an impressive 1-0 Merseyside derby victory that could’ve been a shocker for them. Jurgen Klopp included the newly signed Takumi Minamino among some of the senior Liverpool players. Klopp, however, showed a huge amount of faith in the young stars, who held the team admirably against a strong Everton team.

Adrian was tested in the first half and he passed the test successfully, making a string of saves before the hosts took control in the latter half of the game and ended with the 18-year-old making the scoresheet with only 19 minutes to play.

Ancelotti’s side had few early chances where they could’ve taken the lead but Adrian was lucky enough to receive shots near his body and reacted instinctively on every opportunity. The Liverpool captain, Milner was injured within the first 10 minutes of the game and was replaced by Yasser Larouci.

The England goalkeeper, who had saved some attempts from Origi earlier, was quickly tested by substitute Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as Everton failed to put Liverpool under any pressure. Klopp’s line-up suggested the FA Cup was in the bottom of his list of priorities, but the youngsters ensured that there was no repeat of the 5-0 EFL Cup humbling at the Villa Park.

Liverpool are still unbeaten in the league this year and Klopp’s side is just not looking to give up. With the run of games Liverpool are in, there is a possibility of the Reds winning the league with more than five games to play. Isn't that shocking?

However, when it comes to Everton, it was Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who could’ve capitalized on the chances created in the first half. The striker blasted straight towards Adrian, early in the game and also mistimed a header from a wonderful teasing ball from Theo Walcott and went on to shoot well wide from outside the box, when he had better options in support.
