Manchester United step up interest in Chelsea and PSG target
Premier League giants Manchester United have reportedly stepped up their hunt for Porto's £26 milion-rated Brazilian left back Alex Telles but face competition from domestic rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Telles' advisors have flown to Manchester for talks with Old Trafford officials, according to reports in Portugal.
Chelsea were also linked with the one-cap Brazil international before signing Leicester City's England defender Ben Chilwell for £50 million. PSG were keen too but only at half the asking price of FC Porto.
The French giants have managed to tie Layvin Kurzawa with a new contract and have seemingly dropped their interest in Telles.
That leaves Manchetser United as favorites to land the former Internazionale loanee, despite Sevilla also being interested and 20-year-old Brandon Williams regularly featuring for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side last term.
It is claimed that the Red Devils are looking to provide solid competition to Luke Shaw at left-back and Telles is well capable of doing that.
The 27-year-old Brazilian left-back was a stand-out performer last term as Porto clinched a Primeira Liga and Portuguese Cup double. And for a full-back, he had incredible stats of scoring 13 goals, on top of 12 assists.
Luke Shaw, in his six years at Old Trafford, has only managed to score two goals while providing just 11 assists which speaks volumes about how much of an improvement Telles would be in terms of going forward.
But Porto are said to be willing to cash in on Telles in the current transfer window as his contract runs out next summer. The Portuguese giants want a handsome profit on a player they paid Turkish giants Galatasaray £6 million for in 2016 but they are cornered due to the fact that Telles has only one year left in his contract.
Telles' CV fits the bill as Solskjaer seeks to add experience to younger recruits like Bruno Fernandes and Donny van de Beek.
Having under-achieved while with Inter five years ago, the 27-year-old is also hungry to prove himself in one of Europe's elite leagues.
