Manchester United introduce a new scheme to boost Old Trafford atmosphere

Manchester United have made 1,000 youth season tickets available for next season in a bid to further enhance the Old Trafford atmosphere. Season ticket holders between the ages of 16 and 25 will be required to stump up £285 for the season in order to be allocated a seat in the Red Army section that is on the right-hand side of the Stretford End, for every home game.

The Mirror report that the strategy of allowing youth season tickets in the ‘singing section’ of the ground is part of the club’s wider version of trying to implement a long-term, sustainable and forward-thinking youth culture within Old Trafford.

The number of young supporters going to live games has declined since the Premier League’s halt, with hefty ticket prices and standing laws cited as the two major factors for demise. Therefore, the Red Devils are hopeful that their new strategy will encourage younger fans to attend live matches at an affordable price.

Thus, United Group Managing Director Richard Arnold said, “I want to place on record our appreciation of the hard work and dedication from the organizers of the atmosphere section. The phenomenal support the team gets has been taken to a new level by this successful initiative. We will be seeking to build on this next season by extending this section of the Stretford End out towards the south-west corner, increasing the allocation to at least 2,000 supporters.”

The club is determined to work with fans to improve the atmosphere and noise level within the stadium and the Red Army will play a huge role in restoring its standing as the loudest stadium in England.

Despite having an average attendance of 75,000, the Old Trafford atmosphere is often criticized for its subdued nature, with performances on the pitch since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure in 2013 a certain factor for the change in atmosphere.
