Marco Verratti claims PSG have four of world's top 10 players
Paris Saint Germain have dominated the French football over the last seven or eight years.
The Ligue 1 Champions stamped their authority over French football yet again by beating St-Etienne by 6-1 in Coupe de la Liga quarter-finals. PSG's star midfielder Marco Verratti sung praises of his team's forward line.
PSG has an embarrassment of riches in the attacking department, and their manager has a tough time selecting teams. Tomas Tuchel started with Mauro Icardi, Angel Di Maria, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, and the move paid dividends. PSG humiliated St-Etienne, who had no answers for the star-studded outfit.
Mauro Icardi was on song as he scored a hat-trick, while both Neymar and Mbappe scored a goal each. PSG' midfielder was very impressed with the attacking stars and hailed them as one of the best in the world.
Verratti said that PSG took the match very seriously because it was the first match of the year. He pointed out that PSG was eliminated at this stage of the competition last year, so there was no room for complacency.
"It was our first match of 2020 at home. It was also an important match because it is a quarter-final of the Coupe de la Ligue and because last year we were eliminated at this stage, that's why we started this game very seriously, we started well," Verratti told Canal Plus.
Verratti stressed on the fact that PSG is lucky to be blessed with four attackers who are in the top 10 in the world. He further added that it is very difficult to drop any of these players, so changing the system was a necessity.
"I think we are lucky to have four players who are in the top 10 in the world. [It's] incredible to have that. That's why the coach decided to change the system because leaving one of the four on the bench is difficult." The Italian midfielder added.
While the other three of the quartet has been at the club for some time, Mauro Icardi was signed on loan this summer. The Argentine has hit the ground running scoring 17 times, which has surprised Verratti to an extent.
We didn't think he was going to be as good, the first six months are always difficult, but it is incredible, and we hope he will continue like this," the 27-year-old added.
