Mason Mount: Player Analysis | Goals & Assists Stats | Trophies
Mason Mount has been Chelsea's top performer since last season, despite being just 22 years of age. From playing almost every game under previous manager Frank Lampard to becoming a regular in Thomas Tuchel's squad too, it only seems Mason Mount is growing stronger and stronger. But do you know how it all started?
How it Began
Mount was just six years old when he committed to the Blues in 2005. Being just a U-15 player, Mount was incorporated in the U-18 team in the 2013-14 season. Mount then also represented the club playing for the U-18 and U-21 teams during the 2016-17 season, firing ten goals in 30 games.
A decent season earned him a four-year contract with the Blues. The 22-year-old was then loaned to Eredivisie's side Vitesse where he won the Vitesse Player of the Year award.
Mount also scored a match-saving European play-off semi-final first leg hattrick, scoring one more in the reverse fixture too. The youngster then joined Championship side Derby County in 2018.
It was the 2019-20 season that was his breakthrough year when he paved his way into the Chelsea first-team. Since then, Mason has undoubtedly been Chelsea's best player until today and his passion, dedication, and grit to yield his best every single game is something that very few players possess at such a young age.
Hopefully, in coming years Chelsea will see their modern-day 'Frank Lampard' in scintillating touch as his game seems to be advancing with every passing season.
Statistics
During his 39 appearances for Vitesse, Mount scored 14 goals, followed by 11 goals in 44 games for Derby County the following season. In both these seasons, Mount had more influence than it looks but his mentality was always of the elite category.
During 53 appearances for the Blues in the 2019-20 season, Mount scored just eight goals, but the fact that he made it to most of his games is an example of his fitness and the amount of trust the manager held in him.
Playing Style:
As far as his style is concerned, Mount is an attacking midfielder on paper, but his defensive work-rate is second to none. His desire to get back and help his side while defending is one of the vital reasons why his managers often ensure his place in the XI.
Mount is versatile and can play as a winger too. He has pace, he is sharp technically, and he has exceptional shooting attributes too. He is effective during set-pieces and recent games have shown that he is often very clinical from the spot too.
