Top Five Young Footballers Who Have Been Brilliant With Their Performances This Season
This season of football has seen some fantastic youngsters step up for their teams. People barely knew about them before this season but they have now made their own mark in the world of football. Here are five such players who have shown some brilliant performances in the ongoing 2019-20 season.
1. Erling Braut Haaland
Very few people knew this 19-year-old talent before this season. The Norwegian striker is an ex-player of RB Salzburg, who became a part of Borussia Dortmund in this January transfer window. The teen had eight goals and an assist in the UCL but that was not enough to get his team through to the knockout stages. Haaland has 16 goals and four assists in 14 Austria-Bundesliga games, starting 11 times for the team.
Haaland will definitely be a player to watch as he gets another chance to feature in the UCL, this time representing Borussia Dortmund.
2. Timo Werner
Another star, who could be holding the Bundesliga title soon is this German youngster. Timo Werner has scored 18 goals and set up six being a part of all the Bundesliga games this season. RB Leipzig are on the road of a historic Bundesliga title, leading the table with 37 points.
His performance in the UCL was also a decent one as he fired three goals and laid down an assist. The 23-year-old is just a goal behind Robert Lewandowski, who is the current Bundesliga top scorer with 19 goals.
3. Kylian Mbappe
The 21-year-old has been linked with a move away from Paris Saint Germain for quite some time now. However, the World Cup winner has been superb this season again, starting nine out of 12 games, while scoring 11 and setting up four.
The youngster has also scored five goals and has three assists in the UCL as well. He has been instrumental in keeping the PSG squad together with the trio of Neymar, Mauro Icardi and Edinson Cavani looking very threatening. All the four are having a competition among themselves which looks healthy as of now.
4. Marcus Rashford
Marcus Rashford has been in the form of his life, already crossing his last seasons tally halfway through this season. The struggling Manchester United needed an experienced leader to inspire a comeback and the 22-year-old seems to have already taken the responsibility to give everything for the club. Rashford has scored 12 goals in 21 Premier League games and assisted four so far this season. He has proven himself in big games too, scoring against Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Manchester City too.
Apart from this, he was also the one who took the crucial penalty against PSG to help United qualify for the UCL quarter-finals in the last term. He was also the only goal scorer for the Red Devils in the Carabao Cup Manchester derby semi-final. At just 22 years of age, he surely has a bright future ahead. It will be interesting to see how he helps United to get back their rhythm.
5. Tammy Abraham
Being just 29 days older to Rashford, Tammy Abraham is another youngster who has done so well for his club Chelsea this season. The Englishman has 12 goals and three assists in the Premier League and is the Blues' top scorer in the league by some margin.
At the beginning of the 19-20 season, Frank Lampard was questioned whether the youngster could fill the boots of the Chelsea legend Didier Drogba. As it stands, the player has been on the right track and his techniques are very similar to Drogba. However, the England international still has to prove himself in the big games but his consistency shows he definitely has the potential.
