Christmas will come a little early for basketball fans this year as the National Basketball Association (NBA) released the dates for the start of the pre-season which is scheduled to take off on December 11th, 2020
The 49 game schedule will allow each team to compete in minimum 2 games and maximum 4 games with atleast one home and one game on the road over the next 8 days in the NBA Preseason.
Individual player work outs along with the media week is already underway with training camps as well, it’s a smooth transition as the team management and governing bodies of the association have the know how in these times due to successful finish of the previous season.
Some of the important fixtures include the L.A. Lakers take on the L.A. Clippers to further their rivalry from the last season.
With the recently concluded NBA draft on November 18th which saw the first and second picks by the Minnesota Timberwolves and Golden State Warriors, the NBA pre season can brace itself to witness amazing talents raring to go at each other.
Many in the think-thank were reportedly against an early start to the season due to the looming threat of the Covid situation but the NBA aims at maintaining all adherence to counter any mishappenings but also keep an eye to add a cushion to the financial loss of the last season.
The NBA authorities have chalked a concrete plan announcing the first half of the regular season that begins on December 22nd, 2020 till March 04th, 2021. This will be followed by the "All Star" break and the second half of the schedule will be announced shortly.
Each team will play 72 games this NBA season,10 short of the usual. Also, keeping with the dates of the postponed Tokyo Olympics, they plan to end the 2020-21 season.
