Neeraj Chopra surpasses his previous national record with a throw of 89.94m

Neeraj Chopra surpasses his own National Record with a mighty 89.94m throw in the Diamond League in Stockholm.

India's golden boy who won India’s solitary gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics a year ago has raised the bar at Stockholm Diamond League on 30th June 2022.

The 24-year-old, Neeraj Chopra has once again made India proud after breaking his previous national record with a 89.94m throw at Stockholm Diamond League, as he finished second.

The Olympic gold medal winner returned to Diamond League after four years and stamped his authority instantly when he came second in the league. Chopra broke his record for the second time in a month.

India's national record holder, Neeraj Chopra, could have achieved the longest throw in the history of javelin if he had thrown it a little longer, as he nearly missed the 90m after hurling the javelin to his personal best distance in his first attempt in the Diamond League on Friday.

However, he finished second behind the reigning world champion Anderson Peters, who finished the competition first with the best throw of 90.31m.

Nonetheless, Neeraj Chopra gave his best in the series of six throws and finished second in Diamond League for the first time with 89.94m, 84.37m, 87.46m, 84.77m, 86.67m, and 86.84m.

But the Indian started his performance in impressive throws before Anderson peters excelled him on his third attempt.

The 24-year-old has already competed in the diamond league in 2017 and in 2018 and had finished 4th twice.

Neeraj Chopra will now be aiming to win a gold medal in World Championships, starting July 15 in Eugene, and then Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
