NXGN: Jude Bellingham, Jamal Musiala and where 2022's best wonderkids are now
It's been almost 2 years since the class of 22, the gems of '03 . Hindsight is a wonderful thing and thus we will have a look at some of these names who has gone on to fulfil their promise up until now, who has stagnated despite their massive promise. So get ready for this blast from the past.
Endrick (Palmeiras)
The perennial wonderkid Endrick who rose to Fame when he scored in the U-20 Copenhagen final for Palmeiras as a 15 year old. Having scored 3 goals in his first 7 senior appearances for palmeiras Madrid decided to snap him up for €60m in January 2023. But his move will be finalized in summer of 24 when turns 18 while he continues to make inroads with Palmeiras.
Roony Bardghji (FC Copenhagen)
Touted as the "Swedish Messi" he became the youngest Scorer in Danish Superliga's history but his 22-23 was marred by injuries. Though this season he is on fire already registering double digits goal for goals which includes a late winner against Manchester United putting him on the map.
Shola Shoretire (Manchester United)
Speaking of Manchester United, one player who hasn't managed to set the footballing landscape on fire is Shola Shoretire, the youngest player to ever appear in Europe for United. Shoretire was on the fringes of the first team and still isn't able to get past the U-21s as of now as it's clear that loan stint at Bolton didn't help his cause.
Xavi Simons (Paris Saint-Germain)
The poster boy of kids being commercialized and hyped up from a very young age, his name being Xavi and him being one of the brightest young prospects at La Masia didn't help his cause as he was Initially struggling to make an impact at PSG. But a switch to PSG reignited his career and now he is one of the star performers for RB Leipzig I'm Bundesliga as well as the Champions League.
Kacper Kozlowski (Brighton)
Kacper Kozlowski became the youngest player to ever appear at a European Championship finals in 2021. He joined Brighton for £8m in Jan 22 and was loaned out to USG in Belgium. He was again loaned out to Vitesse for 2 years where he has made over 50 appearances. Always a good sign when Brighton scouts you out, one to watch out for.
17)Ilaix Moriba (RB Leipzig)
Once one of the biggest all action box to box talents at FC Barcelona, Iliax brought in steel and that direct physical style of play amongst the technical minded player that La Masia is famous for Producing. Things haven't worked out well for the former Spain U-18 international who represents Guenia now and has had loan spells with Valencia and Villareal after failing to settle in at Leipzig. His performances haven't been standout by any means during his loan spells whatsoever. However he recently scored against Celta this Feb proving he is still in the runner-up to be a top level player.
Youssoufa Moukoko (Borussia Dortmund)
Moukoko was so good that they had to shield him and deliberately stop him from being fast tracked so that he doesn't get injured or his physical development gets hampered but still they couldn't stop him. From smashing almost all records for the youngest awards. He has been in and out of the Dortmund side but has shown a lot of promise and the only way is up if he keeps on improving his goal output every season like he has been doing for the past couple of seasons.
Jamal Musiala (Bayern Munich)
Musiala was still English when this list came out that's how long ago it was. But what hasn't changed is Jamal's position at Bayern. Even back then he was a regular starter for them and so is he now. His influence over the years has grown bigger and bigger with Chelsea regretting letting him go to Bavaria every time they look at their transfer spend and table position.
Jude Bellingham (Borussia Dortmund)
And we end with the poster boy of NXGN 2020, Jude Bellingham who this season has transformed into Bellingol. But the signs were already there when he was balling for Dortmund after his transfer from Birmingham City as a 17 year old. Though nobody had expected him to turn into the goalscoring midfield beast that he is today. He still retains the all round game that made everyone rate him so highly back then.
