Premier League Gameweek 2: Preview & Prediction 

Gameweek two of the English Premier League is upon us and the beginning fixtures are one of the most crucial ones to win for any team in order to be in the title contention by the end of the season. 

We had an action-packed first week with no draws at all. We are sure to see some good football this weekend as well.

1) Liverpool vs Burnley

Liverpool had an impressive first week against Norwich City, where the Merseyside team scored 3 goals and managed to maintain a clean sheet while they were at it. 

Meanwhile, Burnley would have wished for a better start against Brighton. Burnley lost 1-2 to Brighton in their home ground.

2) Aston Villa vs Newcastle 

After a close battle against Watford in the opening week, Aston Villa will now face Newcastle at home. Newcastle was not able to score points against West Ham in their opening fixture.

3) Crystal Palace vs Brentford

Brentford made the headlines last week after winning their first Premier League fixture in 70+ years. On the other hand, Crystal Palace was thrashed 3-0 by the hands of the reigning European Champions, Chelsea.

4) Leeds United vs Everton 

Will Leeds be able to redeem themselves in front of their home crowd against Everton? Leeds was on the losing side of the fixture against Manchester United where they got battered 5-1. Everton played well against Southampton and managed to get a 3-1 victory.

However, we believe that Leeds United will learn from their mistake and get back against Everton in the second match week of the Premier League. Marcelo Bielsa’s side should be able to grab 3 points against Everton.

5) Manchester City vs Norwich City 

Manchester City has made changes to the starting lineup with the addition of the former Aston Villa number 10, Jack Grealish. On paper, Manchester City seems to be one of the best teams in the world but it is not that simple. 

We have seen Jack Grealish struggle a bit to fit into his role and position. However, it is understandable for a new player to have a few bumps. 

Norwich would be a good fixture for Manchester City to be comfortable against. This will give chance for the team to gain a good amount of momentum going forward in the league after a disappointing start against the Spurs. 

Norwich was able to rotate the ball around well but wasn’t able to create any threat against Liverpool. We doubt they will be able to rotate the ball in their own possession against Manchester City.

6) Brighton vs Watford

Both the teams had close victories in the opening week. This game is a tough one to predict as both had close, yet impressive games.

7) Southampton vs Manchester United 

Southampton will try to do better than last week and Manchester United will try to continue their impressive performance. Southampton lost 3-1 to Everton, Manchester United won 5-1 against Leeds United. 

With the addition of Raphael Varane to the squad, Manchester United are serious contenders for the Premier League title. These opening fixtures are a must-win for Manchester United if they want to win the League title. 

Southampton might be looking to improve on their performance from last week and will try to at least draw the game.

8) Wolves vs Tottenham 

Nuno Santo takes on his former employers as Wolves will go up against Tottenham Hotspurs in the second gameweek. While Harry Kane will not be included in the squad again, Tottenham won’t be looking to leave without the 3 points. 

Wolves would be looking to at least take a point but it seems tough with the way Tottenham performed against the reigning English League Champions last week.

9) Arsenal vs Chelsea

It is the North London Derby and Arsenal had an underwhelming opening week against the newly promoted Brentford, where they lost 2-0 in their home ground. Chelsea had a dominating opening week performance against Crystal Palace where they scored 3 goals and conceded none. 

When it comes to Arsenal, they usually underperform when expected not to but at times, they manage to cause an upset. However, Thomas Tuchel’s side will be ready to face Arsenal in the upcoming North London Derby.

10) West Ham vs Leicester City  

West Ham and Leicester City go against each other in the final fixture of the 2nd match week. Both the teams had a good opening week and both managed to add three points to the table. 

Leicester has been looking in immense form since the start of preseason they managed to win the Community Shield against Manchester City. 

They will be looking for a top 5 finish once again this season and to do that they will have to be consistent with their winning. West Ham will also try to get another Europa League position this season at least. This fixture is going to be one of the most competitive fixtures throughout the week.
