Karen Khachanov vs Daniil Medvedev- Rogers Cup 2019 - ATP 1000- Semifinals - Preview and Prediction
It is a battle between two exciting and highly talented Russians this time in the Rogers Cup as Karen Khachanov and Daniil Medvedev clash with each other in this mouthwatering semifinal tonight.
They know each other since childhood and would not have expected to play against each other in such a big match in a prestigious tournament.
Khachanov and Medvedev have a great record in common- having beaten Novak Djokovic at least once in their career.
Both the players delivered flawless tennis to take out fellow next-gen players - Alexander Zverev and Dominic Thiem in a dominating performance in their respective quarterfinals.
Medvedev has not yet dropped a set en-route to the semifinals and has carried on his brilliant form after the close Washington Open finals defeat against Nick Kyrgios last week.
13 games lost in three matches in this tournament so far is a staggering stat that Medvedev will be proud of. His match against Thiem was expected to go the distance but Medvedev turned the tide this time after two consecutive losses against the Austrian.
It has been a golden run for him with 37 wins this season. He will be looking to reach his first ATP Masters 1000 final but his good friend and compatriot Khachanov stands in his path.
On the other hand, Karen Khachanov has quietly climbed up the charts breaking into the top 10 at number 8 position.
He has previous experience triumphing in the Paris Masters before where he stunned Novak Djokovic. The upswing that he gained after reaching the French Open quarterfinals has continued for him.
The match is an interesting watch for many reasons. Both of them are Russians and the crowd will go berserk rooting for their favourite players with equal support. It is a clash of styles with Khachanov's aggressive forehand along with Medvedev's powerful serve.
Khachanov and Medvedev both are locked 1-1 in their head to head record and both players will look to get the better of each other in this all-important clash.
The last time a Russian player reached a final in Canada was Marat Safin way back in 2000. History is on the line irrespective of the outcome of this match tonight.
Prediction- Daniil Medvedev to win in three sets.
