Mohamed Salah tests positive as COVID-19 creates havoc for the international matches

Mohamed Salah and Liverpool perhaps have been struck with another blow as the Egyptian tested positive for COVID-19. 

The news was confirmed by Egypt Football Association (EFA) as Salah was about to feature for his national side in two Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Togo. 

The 28-year-old is asymptomatic as the case with almost every footballer who tested positive but the problem is the 14-day isolation that the winger will have to go through. This means he will miss the very key clash between the Reds and the Foxes after the International break concludes. 

The Egyptian will miss the Leicester game on November 21 and also, the Champions League battle with Atalanta after four days. 

EFA released a statement regarding the news that read, “The medical swab conducted on our national team showed that our international player, Mohamed Salah, the star of Liverpool, was infected with coronavirus after his test came positive, although he does not suffer from any symptoms, while the other members of the team tested negative.” 

Liverpool has gone through with a similar scenario already when Senegal forward, Sadio Mane contracted the virus. Their latest signing Thiago Alcantara has tested positive too and it seems Jurgen Klopp will now be under some serious trouble considering him recently losing two more players to injuries. 

The UEFA Nations League playing European nations was affected by the virus too as Alan Browne who played the entire 90 minutes against England tested positive the other day. England kept a clean sheet and score thrice to win 3-0 against the Republic of Ireland where Harry Maguire, Jadon Sancho, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored. 

However, Browne claimed to FA Ireland that he had ‘no close contacts.’ “The rest of the staff and squad tested negative ahead of Sunday’s UEFA Nations League game against Wales in Cardiff,” said a statement released after the game. 

The coronavirus had already caused huge damage to the revenue and footballing action all-around the world and it seems that if things are not contained quickly, football may have to go through another drought in a season.
