Battle of words between the former No.20's of United? Ole hits back at RVP

Manchester United were outperformed by a newly transformed Arsenal led by Mikel Arteta. United players faced heavy criticism for their sluggish gameplay, while a need for a new creative midfielder in absence of Paul Pogba was also one of the top concerns for any United fan.

Solskjaer though, in the post-match interview reflected on his team’s poor performance in the opening 45 minutes of the game. He also spoke about the second half, which was comparatively better one but conceding the second goal just on the brink of half-time already killed the game.

During the interview, Ole was captured smiling on which Robin Van Persie commented stating that the manager should inculcate a sense of fear among the players and poor performances should create concerns among the players about being dropped for the next game. 

RVP also told BT Sport that he likes the manager but his attitude is something he needs to work on. He said,” I would like to see him a bit more mean at times, just angry,” I see him smiling now after a game like that. This is not the moment to smile.”

However, the United boss hit back at the Dutchman’s criticism insisting “he (RVP) doesn’t have a right” to question his methods. Ole was clearly not impressed by the comments on the eve of his team’s FA cup tie away at Wolves. 

He said,” I don’t know Robin and Robin doesn’t know me”. Solskjaer also mentioned the fact that the forward Arsenal captain took his No. 20 shirt and that was he was going to take away from him. United currently sit at fifth position in the league and missed a big opportunity to close the gap on Chelsea as the Norwegian’s side struggle for consistency.

Solskjaer also told the media that Nemanja Matic is set to stay, putting all rumors to bed and praised the Serbian for his work rate and dedication to get back in the starting 11. Ole also reacted to Mino Raiola’s statements and made it clear that according to him agents should not be answering or giving their opinions on the state of clubs.
