Spain 1-5 Netherlands: Flashback
The fixture was the repeat of the 2010 World Cup final as the two powerhouses of World football went head-to-head in what to date is one of the most decorated fixtures in World Cup history.
Spain, the defending World Champions were smashing records left, right and center while the Dutch were rejuvenated after a disappointing Euro 2012. More than 48,000 fans gathered in Itaipava Arena Fonte Nova in Salvador to witness the encounter.

After a shaky start, both teams managed to escape without any big troubles as Robin Van Persie came close in the 12th minute while David Silva came close for the World Champions. It was not until the 27th minute that the first significant call of the match arrived.

44th Minute: van Persie goes airborne! Robin Van Persie levels things up in what was arguably one of the best ever headers in FIFA World Cup history. The then Manchester United striker was in red-hot form when that goal went in.
HALF TIME: Spain 1-1 Netherlands
53rd Minute: GOAL!! Arjen Robben did what he failed to do in the 2010 World Cup final as he gave the Dutch a vital lead to make it 2-1 for them.
64th Minute: Lazio star Stefan De Vrij killed of the opposition contest as Wesley Sneijder’s free-kick was converted by the center-back to double the lead for the Netherlands. Spain 1-3 Netherlands
72nd Minute: Netherlands were running riot in the 80th minute as Van Persie completed his brace to exact revenge against Spain as the Dutch striker scored his second and Netherlands’ fourth of the match. Spain 1-4 Netherlands!
80th Minute: Hi-Five from Arjen!! It is 5-1 for the Netherlands as they steam-rolled Spain to record one of the most famous wins in the history of the World Cup. Robben ends with his brace and the Dutch just showed why they were the dark horses for the 2014 World Cup. Spain 1-5 Netherlands!

Spain eventually crashed out in the group stages in a shocking World Cup campaign for the 2010 winners, whereas, the Netherlands enjoyed a decent run at the 2014 WC under Louis van Gaal.
