Syed Modi International Tournament 2019: Kidambi Srikanth moves progresses
Indian shuttlers had a decent outing on the opening day of Super 300 Syed Modi International tournament played in Lucknow on Wednesday.
In the men’s singles, Kidambi Srikanth had no problems in defeating Vladmir Malkov of Russia in two straight sets to move into the second round. The Indian played with aggression and did not allow his opponent any chance. He will take on Parupalli Kashyap who was given a walkover by his opponent.
Lakshya Sen also got a walkover in the first round. He will take on Son Won-Ho of South Korea in the second round. The South Korean player defeated A Yadav in two straight sets by 21-12, 21-16.
HS Prannoy defeated Li Sheng of China in three sets - 18-21, 22-20, 21-13. Prannoy could not find a answer for the young Chinese in the first set. Both players fought it out in the second set but the Indian held his nerves to win it. In the final game, Prannoy dominated the Chinese and won it easily. He will take on Wang Tzu of Chinese Taipei.
Sourabh Verma defeated XD Sheng of Canada in two straight sets by 21-11, 21-16 to move into the second round. He will take on Indian counterpart A Mishra.
Sai Praneeth defeated Zainuddin of Malaysia in two straight sets by 21-16, 22-20. The Indian dominated the Malaysian player in the first game. In the second, both players fought for each point, but the Indian held his nerves to win.
Ajay Jayaram defeated Sameer Verma in all India encounter. Jayaram defeated Sameer by 15-21, 21-18, 21-13 to move into 2nd round. He will take on Zhao JP of China.
In the women’s singles, Rituparana Das defeated Yip P Yup of Hong Kong in two straight sets by 21-19, 21-19. It was an impressive performance by Young Das who stunned the higher ranked Hong Kong player.
Tanvi Lad defeated N Perminova of Russia in three sets by 21-18, 17-21, 21-16 to move into the 2nd round. She will take on Das in the 2nd round.
