Most talented and fierce "Point Guards" in the NBA 2020-21 season

The NBA league has witnessed a drastic change since the 1990’s. Gone are the day’s when teams boasted of big men ruling the court. Currently, no team can do without the smaller lot, running the court. “Point Guards” are the new face of the NBA teams. 

The ”point guards” job has evolved to a point of no return. Running the coaches play, sneaky steals and protecting the rim effectively is the new normal for NBA point guards, calling for all round performances. We look at the names who fit this category of best's in 2020. 

Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Jason Kidd, Steve Nash, Oscar Robertson have one thing in common. They were excellent playmakers and point guards of their time marking the beginning of shaping the league that it is today. 

They entertained us with the lightning passes and circus shots ensuring that basketball is not only a game of giant sized men. Following their footsteps, are a even more innovative breed of point guards who promise to keep this trend alive.

Chris Paul

Fondly known as CP3, Chris Paul has one of the best resumes in the league. A major reason to bring the spotlight on the NBA point guards, he has forced the old and new players alike, to re-invent themselves pushing the level of competition higher. 

Paul has proven records of leading his team in points and assists making him an All Star that he is. Paul is a 10-time All-Star with nine All-NBA team selects and nine All-Defensive selections. This veteran point guard can still rattle the ankles of the opponents with humility and also be a clutch shooter making for a responsible shoulder in the team. 

Damian Lillard

A sensational player with the ball, Damian Lillard will surprise you every season displaying his stronghold in getting the Portland Trailblazers closer to the finish line. He has impressed with his shooting especially breathing life into the team in the dying moments. 

Lillard gets the team involved when needed with passes that see ball at the rim. He is the first player to average 45 points and 10 assists in a span of 6 games. Rightfully, Damian Lillard earned the title of the “Bubble MVP” last season. 

His courage of firing from behind the semi circle at the right time keeps him in the league among the best point guards in the NBA. 

Kemba Walker

Starting off in his career as a player to be ripped upon regularly, Kemba Walker has shown heart in fighting his own demons to rise to a leader in the Boston Celtics. After Kyrie saying good bye to the Celtics, Walker did not shy away from responsibility to step into the big man’s shoes. 

Known for getting the ball to the scoring end of the floor has become his prime focus which he has aced with elan. Walker averages 20 points and 5.4 assists with a 42 percent shooting cementing a commendable place in the league as one of the best point guards in NBA.

Russell Westbrook

Considered as a one man army, Westbrook has time and again been ahead in the MVP race in recent years. Notching triple doubles at the word go, he gives his team the W, with his name on the leader board. 

Exploding at the rim with authority, grabbing the rebounds with sending the ball to the right hands, he can do it all. His stint in Houston alongside Harden maybe questionable but it can’t wipe his name off the records book during his time in Oklahoma City Thunder. He holds the record for most triple-doubles in a season (42) and is the only player to average a triple-double for three consecutive seasons. 

Such has been the numbers, he is left trailing behind Oscar Robertson which we believe will be a done deal this season. 

Luka Doncic

This 21 year old from Dallas Mavericks is heavily gifted in abundance. Having a keen eye on the court, Doncic has been dominant in all spheres in the league and does it with fashion.His talents are so varied that he drew similarities with the legend Larry Bird. 

He is the youngest player in NBA history with a 30-point, 20-rebound triple-double and he averaged a near triple-double last season. At his ripe age, Luka Doncic got his first NBA selection in 2020. The league gets exciting knowing that this lad is not done yet. 

Kyrie Irving

Irving has been in the elite list of point guards for many years due to his ability to innovate and improve his dribbling skills. Definetly, Irving is one of the many to break down defenses with ease combining with elegant shooting. His razzling dazzling ways on the court has been a treat to watch. 

Kyrie Irving has spared no opponent that has challenged him front court. His injuries may have be a set back, but he comes back stronger and better. Teaming up with Kevin Durant at Brooklyn, he is free to experiment his ball handling skills. Kyrie Irving is an NBA champion and six-time All-Star.  

Stephen Curry

Many may come and go, but the list has to feature the person who raised the bar higher for point guards. Stephen Curry will always be credited with changing the game to a new level. He can shoot from any corner of the floor and can astonish you with his moves. 

There is no way to counter this scoring machine. His penchant for shooting from far and wide has earned him the MVP award unanimously. Young entrants have copied his style of play as this the only way forward in the NBA. Curry and the Warriors have reached 5 NBA Finals winning 3 of them, 2 in consecutive years.
