BWF Toyota Thailand Open 2021: PV Sindhu vs Busanan Ongbamrungphan

World number 7, PV Sindhu locks horns against World number 12, Busanan Ongbamrungphan in the first round of the Toyota Thailand Open

Sindhu lost her opening match in the Yonex Thailand Open to Mia Blichfeldt in three games with a scoreline of 21-16 24-26 13-21.  Despite being in fine nick, she was not able to finish the match as Blichfeldt came back strongly.

On the other hand, Busanan lost in the quarterfinals of the tournament to Blichfeldt in straight games (21-13 21-18) in 45 minutes.

"I am excited to be back on the court, when you lose, there is always a sad thing because you always want to win, that does not happen, but you will learn a lot more from your losses, I have learned a lot more from my losses, and you need to come back stronger the next time," said Sindhu while speaking as a celebrity guest on the show "Young Genius".

Head to Head record

Sindhu leads the head to head record by a comfortable margin of 10-1 against Busanan. They last faced each other in the Hong Kong Open 2019 where Sindhu lost the clash in 3 games.

Game Analysis

Sindhu's sloppy defense let her down in the match against Blichfeldt. Though her attack was not up to the mark, she forced the Dane to indulge in long rallies. A win for Sindhu would boost her confidence ahead of bigger battles ahead in the tournament.

The lanky Indian will have to keep her points short and move Busanan to every part of the court by maintaining supremacy through her aggression.

Ongbamrungphan has the uncanny ability to claw her way back into contests as she can win points at a stretch. She can gain control of the proceedings by increasing the intensity of her play as the match progresses.

Her fast shotmaking and unpredictable style of play make her a dangerous opponent. Sindhu should play a strong baseline game and also draw Busanan more frequently to the net.

Prediction - PV Sindhu to win in three games
