Who is Ederson, Tottenham and Newcastle's target ?

Ederson is a Brazilian goalkeeper who plays for Manchester City. You are here to learn more about the 24 year old Atalanta sensation who is linked with the like of Newcastle and Tottenham. His name is Ederson, he is from Brazil and plays in Europe,  that is where the similarities between him and his Premier League Counterpart start and end.
 

Early Years 

Ederson is from the class of '99 and was born in Campo Grande, Brazil. He spent his formative years in the Desportivo Brasil Academy which has helped  produce the likes of Mauro Junior (PSV), Bremmer (Juventus), Gustavo Scarpa (ex-Nottingham), Rodrigo Muniz (Middlesbrough) and Diego Carlos (Aston Villa). 

During his time there were also two youth loan spells,  first one being outright bizarre at Shandong Luneng of all places, but on closer inspection it makes more sense as Desportivo and Shandong had the same owners at that time  and the other one being closer to home at Cruzeiro. He didn't have the most glamorous of youth careers but was recognized with a solitary  U-20 cap in a friendly vs Chile in October 2018. 

The Trail 
 

The rise of Éderson José dos Santos Lourenço da Silva has been a steady rise through the ranks of Brazilian and Italian Football. He got his first big break while being on loan at Cruzerio in 2018 due to squad depth issues and eventually went on to sign on permanent terms. 

He continued his good work into the 2019 season and despite his teams disastrous  campaign leading to their relegation to Serie B managed to shine bright and as a result was picked up by Corinthians on a free due to a dispute on unpaid wages. He then signed for Fortaleza and helped them qualify to the Copa Libertadores of 2022. 
 

On 30 January 2022, Éderson signed a contract with Salernitana in Italy until 2026 and helped them with their great escape despite their poor start to their Serie A campaign  playing a crucial role in a side generally reliant on counter  attacks. Just 6 months down the line after playing 15 Matches for the Italian side down south, he was being shipped off to Atalanta for about about 21M euros, a hefty sum for someone so young. But a gamble that seems to being paying off considering Atalanta were definitely in need of  fresh legs in the middle of the park. 

His time at Atalanta has proved to be a huge success which has lead to even bigger clubs take notice of him and have expressed their Interest in acquiring his services such as Tottenham, Newcastle United and Manchester United from the Premier League among others being linked to this box to box midfielder. 
 

Player Profile 
 

A box to box midfielder who's  playstyle can be  compared to that Joelinton. A silky smooth midfielder with the typical samba flair combined with robust defensive capabilities with  attacking ball progression being his trump card. He is certainly an interesting player profile who adds a more direct approach to the game while also ensuring that on field chemistry maintains in equilibrium with his excellent work rate  even when he might get caught on the counter. 

As per FBRef, Ederson has made the fourth highest number of progressive passes in Serie A this season with 118 in total. He has also completed 103 passes into the final third, ranking 6th in Serie A and has won 30 tackles the second-highest . Both these metrics indicate that he is an asset all round the park both in attack and defence and the links to Newcastle makes sense as he can be either a backup or more likely a rotation option to Joelinton or likewise for Bruno Fernandes at United.
