With her historic performance, Sabrina Ionescu breaks both NBA and WNBA 3-point shooting records.

Amazing things occur everytime Sabrina Ionescu enters a basketball floor. Ionescu was selected first overall in the 2020 WNBA Draft following a remarkable collegiate career at Oregon in which she virtually shattered every record possible.

Ionescu has twice represented the New York Liberty in the WNBA All-Star game, including this year. She is now second in the league with 3.4 made three-pointers per game in 2023, averaging 16.4 points per game. She qualified for this year's three-point shooting competition because of her accurate deep shooting.

Ionescu defeated Arike Ogunbowale and Sami Whitcomb in the competition's final round after making 20 shots in a row at one point. The guard for Liberty ended with 37 points out of a possible 40, breaking the records of Allie Quigley for the WNBA (30) and Tyrese Haliburton and Stephen Curry for the NBA (31).

“I shouldn't have missed two,” Ionescu said. “I mean, there's adrenaline. It was the final round. I had just lost in the skills, I wasn't going to lose again. So thankful to have only missed two, I guess. “I've put in a lot of work to be able to shoot like I have been from the three-point line. So this one's pretty rewarding.”

As shot after shot shredded the net, the audience cheered. Ionescu did it in front of Quigley, making the occasion even more memorable. Afterwards, the Liberty star suggested renaming the trophy in honour of Quigley, who claimed four victories in the three-point competition. Ionescu presently holds the fourth-best three-point shooting percentage in the league (44.6%).

Ionescu, who established the record for the most 3-pointers made in an NBA and WNBA All-Star game, certainly owned the night. In the 2021 shootout's opening round, superstar Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors scored 31 points.

Ionescu took part in the Skills Challenge as well, although her Liberty team lost to the Las Vegas Aces in second place.
