Aston Villa and Newcastle United want struggling Serie A striker

Premier League duo Aston Villa and Newcastle United are to battle each other for Krzysztof Piatek's services as the Polish international has emerged as a target for both of the clubs. 

Steve Bruce's Magpies started the season, overcoming the pessimism around the club, to stay in mid-table for much of the season but a run of one win in their last six League games sees them sit just five points clear of the danger zone. 

Newcastle United's club record signing Joelinton continues to struggle in the lone striker role. The Magpies are among the lowest scorers in the Premier League which is certainly a worrying sign for the North East club. 

Meanwhile, Aston Villa were left short of options up front as Wesley suffered a seemingly season-ending injury during the Christmas period. As per reports, the Midlands side have identified Piatek as someone who can solve their problems. 

Aston Villa sporting director Jesus Garcia Pitarch met his AC Milan counterpart in Italy to discuss a deal about the struggling Polish striker. It is claimed that Aston Villa are prepared to meet the £25million valuation the Rossoneri have placed on the 24-year-old Pole's head. 

However, Aston Villa is likely to face competition from Newcastle United who are also in the mix with reports suggesting that Zlatan Ibrahimovic's arrival at the San Siro might accelerate a deal with Milan for Piatek.

Steve Bruce's side prefer a loan move for the Polish international but could compete with Aston Villa if the Villans plot a permanent move for the former Genoa man. 

Dwight Gayle could be set for a January exit if Piatek moves to the St. James' Park. After signing from Genoa for £30m last January, Piatek had a great initial impact at San Siro with six goals in his first seven appearances but this season, his form has taken a massive dip. 

West Ham United are also believed to be in the mix for the Polish striker. The Hammers have also struggled this season in front of the goal with Sebastian Haller also finding it hard to find his feet in the Premier League.
