Manchester United was completely outplayed by Manchester City in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semifinal.

The Red Devils are now winless in three matches in a row in all competitions, including two humiliating defeats at the hands of Arsenal and their derby rivals. The club has been severely missing the services of Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay, who are missing due to injury.

The midfield lacks any sort of control and creativity, which is why the club is getting linked with many midfielders. The Telegraph has reported that the club is interested in securing the services of Donny van de Beek from Ajax.

The Dutch midfielder attracted interest from Real Madrid in the summer, and he will surely command fees in the range of 50 million pounds.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has maintained that the club won't rush into signings, and will only sign players with the right profile. Donny van de Beek perfectly fits the profile needed by the club. He is a very creative midfielder, who has proved himself at the highest level.

The Dutch midfielder played a huge part in Ajax's run to the Champions League semifinal in the last season. The 22-year-old has the ability to provide a cutting edge to the midfield. Along with the UCL run, he also played a pivotal part in the Ajax team, which won the domestic double last year.

He has been impressive this term too, bagging eight goals already in the ongoing season. While being young and creative perfectly fits the profile for the English giants, Van de Beek's importance to the Ajax side can be a roadblock in the deal.

Ajax was raided in the summer, as they lost arguably their two best players in the form of Matthijs de Light and Frenkie de Jong. De Beek is very important for Ajax's title aspirations, so the Dutch giants might want to keep hold of their prized asset until summer at least.
