Chelsea interested in signing Portuguese wonderkid
Chelsea started the season brilliantly as they looked set to finish in the top 3. Frank Lampard did a fantastic job with a young set up as the Blues created a gap between themselves and other contenders for top four.
Since then, the youngsters have shown their inexperience as they have fallen away from the top three and are constantly looking above their shoulders.
The London based team was serving a transfer ban in the summer, but they are free to sign players in the January window.
The club has been linked with several players, but Lampard would only want to sign players who fit the profile. The English manager has shown that he likes working with the youngsters so the board must be scouting youngsters across Europe.
Sky Sports have reported that Chelsea is interested in signing Benefica's Gedson Fernandes, who has impressed in the Portuguese Primeira Liga. According to the reports, Chelsea wants to sign the 20-year-old on 18 months loan deal with an obligation to buy for £55 million.
While the Portuguese seems to be a perfect signing, Chelsea is not alone in the race for his signature. According to Portuguese news outlet A Bola, West Ham is ahead in the queue as the officials are close to reaching an agreement with the club. The offer of West Ham is similar to Chelsea, as they want to sign the player on loan except for the fact, they don't want an obligation to buy the player.
It can turn out to be a complicated deal because three agents are involved in the transfer. The player is represented by Miguel Pinho, but Jorge Mendes and Pini Zahavai, are also negotiating on the behalf of the midfielder.
The youngster who is celebrating his 20th birthday today has made 13 appearances this season as a teenager. Hence, it is not a surprise that even Manchester United and Everton are keeping the tabs on the player.
