Former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is appointed as the new Everton manager

On Sunday night, Everton announced that Frank Lampard has agreed to become the new Everton manager on a two-and-a-half-year. 

After a week of continuous meetings in the aftermath of Rafa Benitez's sacking, Everton have finally appointed their new head coach, who will take charge of Toffees for a two-and-a-half-year. Frank Lampard will be Everton new manager.

Many managers were frontrunners to grab this role, including Everton’s former player Wayne Rooney, who later declined the offer. 

And the Toffees were closing down a deal with the former Portuguese player, Vitor Pereira, who lifted two league titles with Porto. 

He was the leading candidate to become Rafael Benitez’s successor, but a series of protests by Everton’s fans led to a change in mind, as Everton’s chairman Farhad Moshiri made a U-turn.

Lastly, it all came down to former Chelsea’s boss Frank Lampard, who was offered the job on Saturday. 

Lampard eventually accepted the role as their head coach and will be seen in the dugout in Everton’s next match. Former Swansea and Derby County manager Paul Clement will be Lampard’s assistant manager.

What will Frank Lampard offer as the new Everton Manager? 

Previously Lampard was rumoured to be Norwich’s manager, but the Canaries appointed Dean Smith. 

Frank Lampard has not been in a managerial position for a year, and he has a lot on his plate. During his 18-months spell at Chelsea, Lampard guided them to an FA Cup final and a top-four finish. While a season at Derby County, he lost to Aston Villa in the play-off final.

After a failed spell with Chelsea, this is the second top Premier League club Lampard will take charge of. So this is a really great opportunity to exhibit his managerial prowess in a different club. 

Currently, Everton are struggling and sit at 16th place, four points above the relegation zone. After Rafael Benitez, unsuccessful time at Goodison Park saw the club hit rock bottom, which eventually led to the sacking of the former Liverpool’s manager. 

After a week of hunt, Everton have finally found their manager, and Frank Lampard will have a massive job on his hands. He will have to transform the club from the ruins, and there will be different sorts of a fraction to be put together. 

Frank Lampard has an immense job on his shoulders as he will have to impress angry Everton fans who have been demanding the resignation of Everton’s board outside Goodison Park for a week and steer Everton to Premier League safety. 

Lampard’s first match in charge as an Everton manager will be the FA Cup fourth-round against Brentford on 4th February, and next will be the Premier League game on 8th February against Newcastle. 

Since the January transfer window is coming to its conclusion, the Toffees have managed to sign Donny Van de Beek on loan and agreed to pay the player’s full salary until the end of the season. He was Lampard’s top priority target.

The club is currently in a turbulent phase, and the signing of Frank Lampard could ignite the hopes of giving relief to the fans and the board.
