Jan Oblak really the best goalkeeper in the world?

Atletico Madrid went on to win a thrilling encounter against Levante with a scoreline of 2-1 but the Atletico boss was frustrated as his team failed to take chances against their opposition which almost resulted in two points dropped but Jan Oblak was there to the team’s rescue.

The Slovenian international gave an inspirational performance as he kept out a header from Enis Bardhi in the 93rd minute of the clash at the Wanda Metropolitano. The keeper has now saved 14 out of the last 17 shots on target he has faced in La Liga, including the last two coming against Levante.

Diego Simeone said,” For us, he is the best in the world. He’s one of our captains. He was there when it mattered most, but the last save was one of a player that wins you games. He gave us the possibility of winning a match that we should have finished off before. The headline is Oblak saved Atletico but we should have saved it if we’d taken our chances before.”

Jan Oblak maybe the best for his club but calling him the best in the world can only be considered as an emotional statement as the team saved two important points when they thought, they were lost. At the moment, Jan Oblak has some competition by his side with Real Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois, both having the same number of clean-sheets this season in La Liga.

However, the Real Madrid keeper has played lesser games which makes his performance the better one in the league this season. Jan Oblak has been more consistent with his performances over the last few years but then the likes of Barcelona’s Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Manchester United’s David De Gea also come in the picture.

The debate could be an endless one as the keepers have performed consistently over the years and it would take some accurate scale of measurement to find out who stands out as the best goalkeeper in the world.
